Many heroines have appeared in the history of Bengali cinema, and have also disappeared. Some have remained in the discussion, some have disappeared silently. However, there are some names whose presence was brief, but their impact was profound. One such actress is Ratna Kabir.
Ratna entered Dhallywood in 2002 with the superhit film 'Itihas' directed by Kazi Hayat. In her first film, the then sensation Kazi Maruf was opposite her. As a pair on the big screen, they easily won the hearts of the audience. Her acting skills in the film and Ratna's personality quickly brought her to the center of showbiz.
But this journey did not last long. Even at the peak of her popularity, she suddenly withdrew from acting. Many questions remained in the minds of the audience about her sudden disappearance. Many wondered - was it a personal disaster, or did the dark side of showbiz pull her back?
In a recent long and emotional interview with a media outlet, Ratna openly shared many untold stories from her life. She said that since she entered showbiz, she has had to face various temptations.
In Ratna's words, "Since I gained popularity as an actress, I have been receiving offers one after another. Some want to give me a house, some a car, some want to take me for a walk, some want to spend time on the pretext of having tea. I have even received an offer to take me abroad for 'breakfast'."
She said, "People think that if you are an actress, you have to succumb to all temptations. But I did not choose that path. Even today, no one can say that I have ever been greedy for other people's money. Many have lost in front of my eyes, but I did not break."
This statement is not just from an actress, but from a struggling woman; who has kept herself alive by her self-respect and principles. She came to act out of love, but when she saw thorns in the path of this love, she voluntarily stepped aside.
She said, “I may not have acted in many films, I am not a big heroine. But I can sleep peacefully. I know that I did not build my life depending on anyone. Whatever I did, I did with my own honesty.”
Ratna’s confession is undoubtedly a brave statement. When many sacrifice their self-respect under the pressure of their career, Ratna has stuck to her principles. This may be why she is not a regular in showbiz, but her position is in a place of respect.
Even though she is not in the spotlight now, Ratna Kabir’s story can be a teaching message for the young generation of women—know your limits, understand your dignity, and respect your choices. Because, not all heroines’ stories are like movies, some stories are more cinematic than real life.
