Popular film actress Nipun Akhter, who has been in the spotlight for various issues at various times, has been expelled for life from the Bangladesh Film Artists' Association.
This decision was taken unanimously at the meeting of the association's executive council on Sunday. The matter was confirmed by Shilpi Samiti vice-president and actor DA Tayeb.
The association said that this decision was taken on charges of making fabricated statements using the association's pad unethically. Last July, during the anti-discrimination student movement, Nipun made a statement in which he referred to himself as the former general secretary. The statement was written on the association's pad and he shared it on social media. He faced widespread criticism for this.
The issue was raised at the sixth meeting of the Misha-Dipjol Committee on July 30 last year and it was decided to send a show cause notice to Nipun. However, he did not respond to the notice and continued his controversial activities.
Later, he was expelled for life for his unethical use of the association's pad and making derogatory comments about the editor.
It is worth noting that Nipun often faces criticism on various issues. A few days ago, he also faced obstacles while traveling to the UK. The National Security Intelligence Service (NSI) objected to his travel at Sylhet's Osmani International Airport and his flight was canceled after lengthy interrogation.
Many believe that this expulsion will be a big example in Nipun's career.
