Dates Set for Appeal Hearings in 'Seven Murders', Major Sinha, and Abrar Murder Cases

The Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division has set dates for the appeal hearings of three high-profile murder cases in the country: the Narayanganj 'seven murders' case, the murder of retired Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan, and the killing of BUET student Abrar Fahad.
On Sunday (October 18), Chamber Judge Md. Rezaul Haque scheduled these dates for regular hearings. Prior to this, Attorney General Barrister Md. Ruhul Quddus Kajol had initiated steps to expedite the appeal hearings for these cases.
According to the court's schedule, the hearing for the Narayanganj 'seven murders' case is set for November 17, the Abrar Fahad murder case for November 24, and the Major Sinha murder case for December 1.
In the 2014 Narayanganj 'seven murders' case, the High Court upheld the death sentences of 15 convicts on August 22, 2017.
Meanwhile, regarding the 2020 murder of Major Sinha in Cox's Bazar, the High Court upheld the death sentences of former Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das and Inspector Liakat Ali on June 2, 2025.
Additionally, in the case concerning the 2019 beating death of BUET student Abrar Fahad, the High Court upheld the death sentences of 20 convicts and life imprisonment for five others on March 16, 2025.
The commencement of these hearings—for cases that have long been pending before the Appellate Division—will advance the process toward final resolution. However, the setting of a hearing date does not necessarily mean that the final verdict will be delivered on that same day.
