Allegations of Extortion Demand and Obstruction to Construction in Sreepur

Md. Humayun Rashid has alleged that he was threatened and a sum of five lakh taka was demanded when he attempted to construct a structure on a disputed plot of land in Sreepur, Gazipur. He has filed a written complaint with the Sreepur Police Station, seeking security for himself and his family. The accused, Ain Uddin, however, claims to hold a share in the land.
The dispute concerns an 8.75-decimal plot in the Taltali area of ​​Telihati Mouza. Humayun Rashid claims that his father, Abdul Khalek, became the owner of the land through a registered deed in 1993. Following his father's death, the family has held possession of the land by right of inheritance and has completed the mutation process and paid land taxes.
According to Humayun's complaint, on Thursday morning (September 24), Ain Uddin—accompanied by his two sons, Almas Uddin and Sabuj Miah, and others—arrived at the land armed with machetes, iron rods, and crowbars. When they attempted to take possession, locals intervened. Humayun alleges that a demand for five lakh taka was made to allow the construction, accompanied by threats of physical assault and implication in false legal cases if the money was not paid.
Locals stated that although previous attempts had been made to resolve the dispute through arbitration and land surveys, the issue remains unsettled. Allegations of harassment and extortion previously raised against Ain Uddin could not be independently verified.
When asked about the complaint, Ain Uddin maintained that he also holds a share in the land. However, he did not provide a clear statement regarding the alleged demand for five lakh taka or the threats.
Mohammad Shahinur Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station, confirmed receipt of the written complaint. He stated that legal action would be taken following an investigation.
