A court in Jamalpur has issued a summons to former State Minister for Information Dr. Murad Hasan to appear in court in a case filed for making derogatory comments about former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, the top leadership of the BNP in the then and current political context and Jaima Rahman, and has ordered to publish a notice in the newspaper.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman of Jamalpur's Sarishabari Administrative Court issued this order on Wednesday (July 29). As per the court order, the notice will be published in a national daily urging Dr. Murad Hasan and the other accused in the case to appear in court in person.
The case documents and statement reveal that while he was an MP and State Minister for Information, Dr. Murad Hasan participated in an online talk show and made defamatory and obscene remarks against members of the top family of BNP with malicious intent. According to the plaintiff, the remarks caused financial and social losses of more than 10,000 crore taka and tarnished the image of the state. Jamalpur District Truck Owners Association Vice President and former Chhatra Dal leader Lion Rumel Sarkar filed the case as the plaintiff. Talk show host Mohiuddin Helal Nahid has also been made an accused in the case. Plaintiff's lawyer Moniruzzaman confirmed that although summons were issued against the accused earlier, they did not appear in court and remained in hiding. Later, as the accused were absconding despite the issuance of arrest warrants, the last legal step was to publish a notice in this newspaper. If the accused do not surrender to the court after this process, then according to the law, the trial will be conducted in their absence.
