Verdict in Rampura youth hanging from cornice shooting case today

The verdict in the case filed against a youth hanging from a building's cornice in Rampura in the capital during the July Movement and two others who were shot dead will be announced today. The International Crimes Tribunal-1 will deliver its verdict in the case on Sunday.

The tribunal headed by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder will announce the verdict. The prosecution said that the verdict announcement process will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television and social media.

Five police officers have been named as accused in the case. Among them are former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former ADC of Khilgaon Zone Rashedul Islam, former OC of Rampura Police Station Mashiur Rahman and five others. ASI Chanchal Chandra Sarkar is the arrested accused.

The complaint states that on July 19, 2024, a young man named Amir Hossain was shot while hanging from a cornice during a protest in the Dakshin Banasree area of ​​Rampura. In the same incident, it is alleged that a bullet pierced the head of child Basit Khan Musa and hit his grandmother Maya Islam, killing her. In addition, the case also mentions that another person named Nadeem was killed.

The prosecution has presented the testimony of 13 witnesses in the case. The state is seeking the maximum punishment for the accused, claiming that the charges have been proven.
