Property dispute: Two sons in jail for torturing mother

Police have arrested two sons in Dhamairhat upazila of Naogaon on charges of physically and mentally torturing an elderly mother over a property dispute. They were later sent to jail on the orders of the court.
According to police and local sources, an elderly woman from the upazila recently filed a written complaint with the police station. In the complaint, she mentioned that after the death of her husband, her two sons had been pressuring her for a long time to transfer the property in her name to their own. When she did not agree to this, she was threatened, abused and tortured at various times.
The victim claimed that during one stage of the latest family dispute, she was beaten up and tried to be thrown out of the house. Later, she filed a complaint with the police station with the help of other family members.
After receiving the complaint, the police went to the spot and spoke to the locals and got the primary truth. After that, the two accused brothers were arrested.
A district police officer said that legal action has been taken based on the complaint. After being produced in court, the judge ordered them to be sent to jail.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion in the area. According to locals, incidents of abuse against elderly parents due to disputes over family property are increasing at an alarming rate and there is a need to increase social awareness on these issues.
