A special team has been formed in the High Court under the leadership of Attorney General Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal for the hearing of the state party in the controversial Ramisa murder and rape case.
This team includes Deputy Attorney General Barrister Osman Chowdhury, Barrister Mehedi Hasan, Deputy Attorney General Jamiul Haque Faisal and Assistant Attorney General Dewan Humayun Kabir Ripon.
The Attorney General himself confirmed the matter on Thursday (June 11). He said that he himself will participate in the argumentative hearing of the case in the High Court and the entire team of the state party is already preparing.
The Attorney General said that the Chief Justice has formed a special bench for the speedy disposal of cases related to violence against women and children on a priority basis. He said that the state party will not apply for any adjournment in this case and the hearing will continue without interruption.
He also said that the case is expected to be listed on the agenda of the High Court's special bench next Sunday.
Earlier, on June 9, the death reference of the two accused sentenced to death in the rape and murder of 8-year-old Ramisa in Pallabi, Dhaka, came to the High Court. After the judge of the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal signed the verdict, it was sent to the High Court.
The High Court's approval is required before the death penalty is executed in a criminal case, which is known as a death reference case.
