Former Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury arrested

Former Speaker of the National Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has been arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB).
DB sources said that after the arrest, she was taken to the DB office on Minto Road in the capital.
She was arrested from her house on 8/A Road in Dhanmondi in the capital at around 4:30 pm on Monday (April 6).
Confirming the matter, DMP Additional Police Commissioner (DB) Md. Shafiqul Islam said that she has been arrested. Details on this will be announced later.
However, the DB has not yet made it clear in which case she has been arrested.
It is learned that there is a murder case against Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury. A case was filed against her on August 27, 2024, in connection with the death of goldsmith Muslim Uddin in Rangpur after being shot. A total of 17 people, including former Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, were accused in that case.
He served as the Speaker of the National Assembly for a long time after being elected as the Member of Parliament from Rangpur-6 constituency. He served in this position for four consecutive terms after being elected as the Speaker for the first time on April 30, 2013.
On August 5, 2024, the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country in the face of student and public protests. Later, when the parliament was dissolved, Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury resigned from the post of Speaker on September 2 of the same year.
