Robbers raid police station in Netrokona, loot 10 tons of gold ornaments

A horrific robbery took place at the house of a police inspector in Madan upazila of Netrokona using anesthetic drugs. During this, the robbers looted 10 tons of gold ornaments, including various items, estimated to be worth around 24 lakh taka.
The incident took place at around 1 am last Sunday in Ward No. 3 of Madan Municipality Sadar. The victim, Police Inspector Md. Azharul Islam, is currently working at the Naval Police Headquarters in Dhaka.
According to local sources, the robbers first drugged the police inspector's younger brother, Jaku Mia, and made him unconscious. Later, they brought him home in a sick state and forced his wife Nasrin Akhter to open the door. When Jaku Mia kept talking incoherently, Nasrin Akhter became suspicious. At that time, the robbers threatened to kill her and her husband.
Later, the robbers broke the lock of the cupboard of the house and looted 10 baht of gold ornaments. At the same time, the members of the organized robber gang also locked some houses in the vicinity.
Victim Nasrin Akhter said, around 1 am, some people brought my husband in a sick condition and asked him to open the door. As soon as I opened the door, they entered the house. When I tried to talk, they tied my hands and threatened to kill me with weapons. She said that she recognized two to three robbers.
Zaku Mia said, around 9 pm, a friend made me drink tea. Later, he took me to a pond in the village. After that, I don't remember anything. When I regained consciousness around 1 am, they brought me home. I don't know what happened after that.
Madan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasnat Zaman said that the police have inspected the scene. Legal action is being taken in the incident.
