Headmaster absconds with sixth grade student in Subarnachar, madrasa set on fire

Tensions have spread in Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali over allegations that a headmaster of a madrasa had absconded with a 13-year-old student. This led to the setting fire to the madrasa by unidentified persons, creating panic in the area.

On Tuesday (January 13), between 11:30 pm and 12:00 am, an arson incident occurred at the Syed Munshi Bari Madrasa in Uttar Char Hasan village of Char Jabbar union in Subarnachar upazila. Upon receiving information, the police and fire service quickly reached the spot and brought the fire under control. There were no casualties.

According to the complaint, the student had an immoral relationship with the headmaster while studying at the madrasa. On January 7, the accused teacher, Mahmudul Hasan (35), absconded with the student. Later, the family members rescued the student and brought her home. The accused teacher has been absconding since the incident.

According to local sources, the accused teacher is a resident of Pirojpur district and was serving as the headmaster of the madrasa. After the incident, the family members of the victim girl locked the madrasa and the institution remained closed for about a week. Meanwhile, the arson incident took place late at night.

The day after the incident, on Wednesday (January 14), Upazila Executive Officer Aqib Osman and Char Jabbar Police Station OC Md. Lutfur Rahman visited the scene. The OC said that a complaint has been filed with Sudharam Model Police Station in the incident of running away with the girl and the founder of the madrasa has filed a case against unknown persons in the arson incident. Currently, the victim girl is in the custody of her family.
