Police have arrested a female candidate in the Panchagarh government primary school assistant teacher recruitment exam with an electronic device. The arrested candidate is named Rubina Khatun (32). She was arrested from the Dr. Abeda Hafiz Girls School and College center of Panchagarh Municipality on Friday afternoon, January 9. The incident created a sensation among the candidates.
It is learned that during the exam, a candidate at the center realized the matter and informed the room inspectors, who took the suspected female candidate to the principal's room for questioning. Later, when the matter was reported to the police and the district administration, the center secretary handed her over to the district administration's Executive Magistrate Mohammad Sohel Rana. At one stage of the interrogation, an electronic device was recovered from inside her ear.
The arrested Rubina Khatun is the wife of Ashraful Islam of Dafadar Para area of Kamat Kajaldighi Union of Panchagarh Sadar Upazila. At the time of arrest, she was accompanied by a three-year-old child, which brings the incident to discussion from a more humane perspective.
District administration sources said that the government primary school assistant teacher recruitment exam started simultaneously at 3 pm in 20 centers in Panchagarh district city. At that time, she was identified due to suspicious behavior during the exam at the Dr. Abeda Hafiz Girls School and College center. Later, the device was seized from her in the presence of the administration.
Assistant teachers in charge of the center, Mahmudul Hasan Suman and Manranjan Kumar, said that a nearby examinee first noticed the matter and informed them. Initially, the accused female examinee denied the matter, but later the electronic device was recovered during a search by the administration and police.
Executive Magistrate Mohammad Sohel Rana said in this regard that the examination hall inspectors identified her in room number 6. Since the incident was not within the jurisdiction of the mobile court, the device was seized and he was handed over to the Sadar Police Station for regular case filing. He further said that after being arrested, the examinee's father left his small child with Rubina. The child is currently with the mother and as part of the subsequent legal process, the necessary decision regarding the child will be taken by the police station.
The district administration further said that this year, a total of 10,810 examinees applied in 20 centers against 171 posts in Panchagarh district. Out of these, 8,781 participated in the examination and 2,029 were absent. The attendance rate in the examination was 81.23 percent.
The concerned believe that the strict stance of the administration towards transparency of the examination and prevention of cheating has once again become clear in this incident.
