Faisal, the main accused in Hadi's murder, has fled the country, police admit

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has said that Faisal Karim Masud alias Dawood alias Rahul, the main accused in the murder case of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Shahid Sharif Osman bin Hadi, has fled the country.
DMP Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md. Nazrul Islam gave this information at a press conference organized at the DMP's Media Center on Sunday (December 28) morning.
He said that Faisal, who shot Hadi, and motorcyclist Alamgir Sheikh were identified on the day of the incident. Raids were conducted in various areas including Savar, Hemayetpur, Agargaon, Narsingdi to arrest them. As part of the continuous raids, raids were conducted up to the Haluaghat border area of Mymensingh. However, the accused crossed the border and fled before that.
Police said that after the incident, Faisal and Alamgir traveled from Dhaka to Aminbazar by CNG, then via Kalampur in Manikganj to Haluaghat in Mymensingh in a private car. There, two people named Philip and Sanjay helped them cross the border. Later, they were handed over to a person named Putti in the Indian state of Meghalaya and reached Tura area through taxi driver Sami.
Nazrul Islam said that after informally contacting the Meghalaya police, it was learned that Putti and Sami have been arrested. The police believe that the accused crossed the border illegally.
Eleven people have been arrested so far in the incident. The seized evidence includes two foreign pistols used in the murder, 52 rounds of bullets, magazines, knives, motorcycles, fake number plates, an auto-rickshaw and signed checks of Tk 218 crore against 53 accounts. Six of the arrested have given confessional statements and four have testified under Section 164.
Regarding the background to the murder, he said that if the main accused is arrested, it will be clearer who is behind it. Some information cannot be disclosed for the sake of investigation. Police believe that the murder may have been committed for political reasons.
DB Chief Additional Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam said that the investigation into the motive of the murder is underway and details will be known soon.
Regarding the return of the accused from India, Nazrul Islam said that efforts are being made to return them formally and informally under the prisoner exchange agreement. The investigation of the case is in the final stage and the charge sheet will be submitted within the next 7 to 10 days.
It is worth noting that Sharif Osman Hadi was attacked on Box Culvert Road in Paltan on December 12. He died in Singapore on December 18 while undergoing treatment due to serious injuries. Later, the case was converted into a murder case by the court order.
