The parents of a housewife in Panchagarh have accused their daughter of being brutally murdered two years after her marriage. They are holding a press conference demanding punishment for the culprits in this incident.
On Saturday (December 20) afternoon, the helpless couple Amir Uddin and Nargis Akhter from Bamankumar area of Aloakhoa union of the upazila held a press conference at the Atwari Press Club of the district.
At the press conference, they said that their daughter Amina Akhter married Ratna to Rabiul Islam, son of Farajul Islam from the neighboring Bakdokra area, in 2023. They have a 7-month-old daughter. On the night of November 22, Ratna was taken to the Atwari Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition by her husband and in-laws, where she died. In the morning, they informed the family of the housewife that Ratna had committed suicide by consuming poison. But the family members of the housewife went to see that there were injury marks on various parts of her body. They did not even find any signs of poison.
They claim that the murder was staged as a drama. Although they initially offered a compromise in this incident, the victim's family filed a case with Atwari Police Station on November 24. While the case is ongoing, the housewife's father, Amir Uddin, alleged that the accused have recently been making various threats, including changing the autopsy report in exchange for money.
He said, "After beating and killing my daughter, they staged a suicide drama. Now they are threatening to change the autopsy report in exchange for money. They are threatening us because they are influential. The main accused has not been arrested yet. We want those involved in the murder of my daughter to be arrested and given exemplary punishment."
The press conference was attended by the deceased Ratna's mother Nargis Akhter, uncle Omar Ali and sister Arzina Akhter, along with local residents.
