Police attacked while arresting accused in extortion case in Pangsha, 3 injured

An attack was carried out on the police while arresting accused in extortion and assault cases in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari. Two police members and a local person were injured in the incident. The attack took place in Patta Bilpara area of Patta union of the upazila around 5 pm on Wednesday (November 5).
Police have arrested a person named Alam Sheikh from the spot.
According to police sources, a team including Pangsha Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Nazrul Islam, SI Obaidur Rahman, ASI Paritosh Majumder, Constables Humayun Kabir and Atoar Rahman went to conduct a drive to arrest the accused in the extortion and assault case in that area.
During the drive, relatives and associates of the accused attacked the police members by throwing bricks. SI Nazrul Islam and Constable Humayun Kabir were injured in this. During the attack, a local person was injured after being hit by a brick thrown by the attackers.
Later, additional police reached the spot and brought the situation under control and arrested a man named Alam Sheikh and took him to the police station.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pangsha Model Police Station Md. Fariduzzaman said preparations are underway to file a separate case in the attack on the police. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the other accused.
