The donation boxes were opened at around 8:30 am on Saturday under the supervision of Additional District Magistrate Mizabe Rahmat, Convener of the donation box opening committee. At this time, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of Pagla Mosque Management Committee Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, Army Brigadier General Md. Tariqul Islam, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Russell Sheikh were present.
The mosque has 9 donation boxes. They are opened every three months. This time it was opened after almost four months and 119 days. Now counting is going on.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad said that 9 donation boxes were opened in the presence of members of the mosque management committee around 8:30 am. 28 sacks of money were found in these donation boxes.
Superintendent of Police Mohammad Russell Sheikh said that the donation boxes of Pagla Mosque were opened under strict security. Policemen will be engaged in security until the money is counted and delivered to the bank.
245 madrasa students, 50 bank employees, 34 members of the mosque committee and 10 members of law and order forces have participated in the counting of money.
Earlier, the donation boxes were opened on April 20 this year. At that time, 7 crore 78 lakh 67 thousand 537 taka was found in 27 sacks. At that time, the donation boxes were opened after 4 months and 10 days. It was a new record to get so much money in the donation box of this historical mosque.
In addition to chickens, cows and goats, many people regularly donate gold and silver ornaments to the mosque. Donations also come from outside the country.
