Two women were killed in a tragic road accident (tragic = মর্মান্তিক) in Boda upazila of Panchagarh after being run over by a stone-laden truck (stone-laden = পাথরবোঝাই). In the incident, six more people, including a child (including = অন্তর্ভুক্ত), were seriously injured (seriously injured = গুরুতর আহত). The heartbreaking accident (heartbreaking = হৃদয়বিদারক) occurred on Tuesday (January 20) afternoon on the Boda–Debiganj highway (highway = মহাসড়ক) at Chandanbari Bazar area under Chandanbari Union.
Among the deceased (deceased = নিহত), one woman was identified as Khoitali Barman, a resident of Cheptipara area in Magura Union of Panchagarh Sadar upazila. She was the wife of Dhirendranath Barman. The identity of the other deceased woman could not be confirmed (confirmed = নিশ্চিত করা) immediately. A child is also among the injured, which has made the incident even more heartbreaking.
According to local sources (local sources = স্থানীয় সূত্র), a three-wheeler carrying passengers was heading towards Boda upazila town from the town area of Debiganj upazila. At the same time (at the same time = একই সময়), a stone-laden truck was coming from the opposite direction (opposite direction = বিপরীত দিক), heading towards Debiganj from Boda. When the three-wheeler reached the Chandanbari Bazar area, it attempted to overtake (attempted to overtake = পাশ কাটাতে গেলে) a battery-powered van (battery-powered van = ব্যাটারিচালিত ভ্যান). At that moment, the stone-laden truck lost control (lost control = নিয়ন্ত্রণ হারায়) and ran over the three-wheeler.
As a result (as a result = ফলে), Khoitali Barman died on the spot (on the spot = ঘটনাস্থলেই). The other woman was taken to the hospital in a critical condition (critical condition = আশঙ্কাজনক অবস্থা), where she later died while undergoing treatment (undergoing treatment = চিকিৎসাধীন অবস্থায়).
Officer-in-Charge (Officer-in-Charge = ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা) of Boda Police Station, Md. Selim Malik, confirmed (confirmed = নিশ্চিত করেন) the incident. He said that six injured people, including the child, were first given primary treatment (primary treatment = প্রাথমিক চিকিৎসা) at Boda Upazila Health Complex. Later, five of them were referred (referred = পাঠানো হয়) to Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital for better treatment (better treatment = উন্নত চিকিৎসা), while one injured person was sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Soon after the accident (soon after = দুর্ঘটনার পরপরই), local people seized (seized = জব্দ করে) the stone-laden truck. However, the driver and his assistant (assistant = সহকারী) managed to flee (managed to flee = কৌশলে পালিয়ে যায়) from the scene. Police have launched an operation (launched an operation = অভিযান চালানো হচ্ছে) to arrest them, the OC added.
A shadow of grief (shadow of grief = শোকের ছায়া) has descended over the area following the accident. Local residents have demanded immediate restoration of road discipline (road discipline = সড়ক শৃঙ্খলা) and stricter control over heavy vehicles (stricter control = নিয়ন্ত্রণ জোরদার) to prevent such fatal accidents (fatal accidents = প্রাণঘাতী দুর্ঘটনা) in the future.
