110-year-old Maulvi Abdur Rashid came from Kalkini in Madaripur to attend the funeral of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. He was spotted on Karwan Bazar Road in the capital on Wednesday (December 31).
Maulvi Abdur Rashid said, "I was a fan of Ziaur Rahman. I was impressed by his patriotism. After Zia's death, I also attended his funeral. Now, after Khaleda Zia's death, I am impressed by her patriotism and morality. She never sacrificed morality."
Mentioning his age of 110, he further said, "Khaleda Zia never compromised despite being a victim of thousands of imprisonments and oppression. It seems that a leader like her will not be born in Bangladesh again. Bangladesh has lost a true patriot. It would have been a pity if I did not attend the funeral, that is why I have come even at this age."
It is worth noting that the funeral of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was completed at 3:05 pm. Mufti Mohammad Abdul Malek, Khatib of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram, led the prayer at the funeral, which began at 3:03 pm at Manik Mia Avenue.
During the funeral, lakhs of people thronged Manik Mia Avenue, Bijoy Sarani, Khamar Bari, Karwan Bazar, Farmgate, Shahbagh and Mohammadpur areas.
