RAB recovered an ancient Vishnu idol weighing about 190 kg by digging the soil in Sherpur, Bogra. Two people were arrested in this incident on Monday morning. Later, the recovered idol and the arrested people were handed over to Sherpur Police Station.

According to RAB sources, the length of the recovered Vishnu idol is 57 inches and width is 24 inches. Its estimated market value is about two crore taka. Delwar Hossain, Warrant Officer of RAB-12, Bogra, has filed a written complaint with Sherpur Police Station regarding the incident.

The two arrested are Abul Basar (55) of Shahbandegi Union of Sherpur Upazila and Al Amin Sarkar (48) of Rangalia area of ​​Sirajganj.

According to RAB, Abul Basar first found the idol while digging a pond in Amin village of Kusumbi Union of Sherpur. He later hid it under the floor of a tin house by the pond. It is initially believed that he hid the statue with the intention of smuggling it abroad.

In this regard, RAB warrant officer Delwar Hossain said that after testing at a local jewelry workshop, it was confirmed that the statue was made of kasti stone.

Police Inspector (Investigation) of Sherpur Police Station Zainul Abedin said that legal action is under way against the arrested persons along with the recovered statue.
