He used to steal lakhs of taka by luring them to leak question papers: Arrested Zahid Khan

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) Cyber and Special Crime (North) Division has arrested a young man named Md. Swadhin Mia (23) on charges of leaking and cheating on various competitive exam question papers.

DB Joint Police Commissioner (Cyber Security and Support) Syed Harun Or Rashid told reporters at the DMP Media Center on Tuesday (September 16) afternoon that he was arrested in a raid in the capital's Pallabi Police Station area. Four mobile phones, a laptop and eight SIM cards were seized from him during the arrest.

Syed Harun Or Rashid said that while monitoring social media, the DB's cyber crime team saw posts on a Facebook ID named "Zahid Khan" providing various recruitment exam question papers. Among them, there was an announcement to provide “100 percent common original copies” of the 47th BCS preliminary examination, the MCQ examination for the post of Assistant Upazila/Thana Education Officer of the Department of Primary Education, and other examinations.

The arrested Swadhin admitted that he used to take advance money by tempting the public to give exam question papers on social media using fake profiles and later stopped communicating. In this way, he embezzled lakhs of taka from the victims through various mobile banking including bKash, Nagad and Rocket.

The DB Joint Police Commissioner further said that the bio of the arrested Swadhin’s Facebook account had written, “I provide questions in exchange for money, change the results. If you need help, inbox me.”

The DB has taken legal action in this regard and further investigation is underway after the arrest.
