Villagers are building the dam with voluntary labor

In Kurigram, the residents of Velakopa village of the municipal town are constructing a dam with voluntary labor. The locals have taken this initiative after making written and verbal appeals to the concerned authorities for 7 years. The locals have taken this initiative. .
It is reported that the road about 1 km from Hanagar head of Ward No. 6 Velakopa Mouja of Kurigram Municipal Town was destroyed by flood. Due to this, about 8 thousand people of four villages and one union of Velakopa Ward are in extreme trouble with their transportation system. Complaining and requesting the then municipal mayor and former mayor did not take any measures for the road. The local people could not build it. In the end, the villagers built a bamboo bridge with their own money. It also became impassable. Every day some people who travel get into an accident. Even after seeing such distant situation, the municipal authorities were silent, so the local people came forward to build the dam with voluntary labor. For the last three days, they are building the dam with the hard work and money of people of all ages and classes.
Md. Majed, a local resident, said that when the election comes, the public representatives make thousands of promises. Once elected, they do not look for the people anymore. Union level roads are much better than Kurigram municipal city. Living in municipal city, people of this area are deprived of the facilities of municipal meeting even if they pay all the tolls.
Autorickshaw driver Md. Haider Ali said that this road is the only hope of thousands of people here every day. It is very difficult to travel on this road with old children. Relatives are in extreme trouble with sick patients. However, no municipal mayor worked on this road. In the end, they had to remove their own suffering.
Volunteer Md. Noor Islam Nuru said, "We are living in a municipal city in name only. Despite paying all kinds of revenue taxes, we are deprived of all the facilities of the number one municipal council." If fire service, police or ambulance are needed in an accident, they cannot get it only because of the road. This situation has been going on for the last 7 years. The people's representatives did not keep their word. Forced, we villagers are working on the construction of the dam with voluntary labor. We hope that the work will be completed in a day or two.
Former local commissioner Jamsed Ali Tungku Mia said, Dhaka has been contacted repeatedly with papers but no solution has been found, the dam is being constructed with the voluntary labor of the villagers.
