The students of Islami University (EB) have blocked the Kushtia-Khulna highway demanding the appointment of a corruption-free VC as soon as possible.
On Saturday (September 21) at 11:30 am, the students took out a procession from the University's Battala under the banner of anti-discrimination student movement. The procession circumambulated the various roads of the campus and halted at the Kushtia-Khulna highway. The students blocked the road for about 2 hours. Meanwhile, a long traffic jam was created on the Kushtia-Khulna highway.
Students in protest rally - Rabi, DU gets VC, why EB backslides, when everyone is in heaven, why EB in morgue, 'No six with VC, no more', 'want reformist VC' 'want corruption free VC', 'honest and brave' Chanted various slogans including VC Chai', 'Sessionjtor Kabar Chai'.
In the gathering, the students said that Vice Chancellors have been appointed in most of the universities, including DU Jabi Chabi Berobi, but the first university of independent Bangladesh, Islami University, has not appointed a Vice Chancellor. We don't want any more vice-chancellors. Appointment of Vice-Chancellor in EB should be arranged immediately. Honest, efficient, student-friendly and academician Vice-Chancellor wanted. No corrupt person should be vice chancellor of EB.
They also said that the Islamic University has fallen away from its founding goals and objectives. I demand the appointment of a vice-chancellor who will implement that objective. We do not want a vice chancellor who has been associated with corruption in the past. A qualified person should be appointed as Vice-Chancellor after all the past activities. Who will always work with the students to solve the problems of the university.
