All nursing officers and students of Brahmanbaria district have formed a human chain to demand the resignation of Director General Maskura Noor of Bangladesh Department of Nursing and Midwifery (DGNM) for insulting the nursing profession and nurses.
Working nurses, teachers and students of Bagerhat Nursing Institute gathered in front of Bagerhat 250 bed district hospital at 11 am on Saturday (August 14) and carried out this program. On this day, from 10 am to 11 pm observed the strike.
Bagerhat Nursing Institute Teacher Shamsunnahar, Nursing Instructor Acting Incharge Kanika Mistry, Senior Staff Nurse Farzana Zaman, Nazmunnahar Hira, Bagerhat Nursing Institute third year student Qutubuddin, Nishi Sultana spoke in the human chain.
The speakers said that the Department of Nursing and Midwifery has been running under non-nursing cadres for a long time. In this continuity, non-nursing cadres are serving in all high-ranking positions, including the Director General of the Directorate of Nursing and Midwifery. From above our heads they insult us, exploit us.
However, DGNM Director General Maqsuda Noor taunted the nursing and midwife profession. We demand punishment including resignation of Director General Maqsuda Noor. They demanded the appointment of nurses in the administration of the Directorate of Nursing and Midwifery immediately and formulation of special BCS for nurses in the Directorate. If the demand is not met, the nurses announced a two-hour strike tomorrow.
