Tangail has had a bumper crop of jute this year due to favorable weather conditions. Due to the lack of sufficient rainfall in the beginning, there is a problem in jute cultivation, but due to the rains at the end of the season, jute cultivation increases. Due to intensive care and advice from the Agriculture Office, jute is free from disease. Farmers are smiling because the market price of jute is good.

Jute farmers say that in order to get a good price of jute, besides avoiding polythene sacks, all jute mills in the country should be started and export to foreign countries should be undertaken.

According to the sources of the Department of Agricultural Extension of Tangail, the cultivation of golden fiber is increasing every year in the district due to good prices. In the last fiscal year 2023-24, 2 lakh 52 thousand 558 bales were produced on 19 thousand 20 hectares of land. In the current season, 230,690 bales of jute will be produced on 19,650 hectares of land in the financial year 2024-25. The target for jute cultivation this year was 19,600 hectares. Jute cultivation has increased in 50 hectares of land more than the target. This year, 6,200 farmers in the district have been given free jute seeds per kg.

It has been seen on the ground that jute has been cultivated in 12 upazilas of the district. Cultivators are now busy removing the husks from the awakened jute. Most of the land has been harvested. Most of them have been awakened. Many are removing fiber from jute. Someone is tying a bundle of jute and drying it in the sun. Someone folds the jute again and spreads it out in the sun. The market price of jute and jute is also good. It is being sold at the rate of 3500 to 4000 taka per maund. Just as the farmer gets money by selling jute fiber, jute sticks are used as fuel, for house fencing. Slowly the reign of golden scales is coming back to this district.

Jute farmers said that Desi, Tosha, Kenaf, Rabi-1 and Indian Bangbir varieties of jute are grown the most. Almost every year jute seeds and fertilizers are given free from jute office and agriculture office but these seeds do not reach us in time. It disrupts the cultivation of jute. If you get the jute seeds in time, the plant will grow in many parts.

Farmer Shahadat Hossain of Ag Deuli village of Deuli Union of Delduar Upazila said, I sowed jute with irrigation as there was no rain in the early days of jute cultivation. I sold the jute seeds that I sowed for 4000 taka. Later I sold the jute for 3400-3500 taka. I still have some jute to cut. How to get their price is still not clear. But we are very happy with the yield of jute at the current price.

Anwar Hossain, a farmer of the same village, said, "This year, I planted jute again on 4 bigha land. Seven maunds were yielded per bigha. I got 95 thousand taka by selling jute of 4 bigha land for 3400 taka. I have spent 40 thousand rupees to redo the jute of 4 bigha land. I have gained more than 55 thousand rupees.

Farmer Chanowar Hossain said, I took 10 percent of the land and cultivated jute. I got three marks in it. I sold the jute that I got first at the price of Tk 2400. I sold the next jute for 3800 taka.

Monirul Islam, jute trader of Lihimpur Hat in Delduar upazila said, we buy jute from local farmers and sell it to various mill parties in Bangladesh. Besides, jute is bought from the farmers at Lihimpur haat every Friday. About 500 to 600 maunds of jute are bought and sold on the market day. This year I am buying jute at Tk 3500-3800. I sell it to various mill parties at the rate of 80-100 taka.

District Jute Development Officer Wahiduzzaman Khan said that jute directorate has distributed 1 kg of jute seeds and 12 kg of fertilizer to 36 thousand farmers in 12 upazilas of the district this year. Also 900 registered farmers have been trained.

Dulal Uddin, the district training officer of the Department of Agricultural Extension in Tangail, said that jute farmers have returned to their good days. Due to the increase in the price of jute, farmers have turned to jute cultivation. Farmers are now getting a lot of profit from jute cultivation. All kinds of cooperation are being done to encourage the farmers.
