Bangladesh Secures First Asian Games Hockey Win by Defeating Sri Lanka 5–1

Bangladesh has achieved its first victory in the Asian Games men's hockey tournament. On Thursday (September 24), they defeated Sri Lanka 5–1 in a Pool A match. This win holds special significance for Bangladesh, coming after a defeat to the same team during the qualifiers in April.
Bangladesh took an early lead through a goal by Amirul Islam. Ashraful Islam later extended the lead. Although Sri Lanka pulled one goal back, Amirul scored his second goal to restore a two-goal cushion for Bangladesh.
Mahbub Hossain then scored a goal. Towards the end, Ashraful netted his second goal via a penalty stroke, sealing a 5–1 victory. Amirul and Ashraful scored two goals each of Bangladesh's five.
Bangladesh had started the tournament with losses against South Korea and Japan. Their next group match is against Indonesia on September 26, followed by a match against India on September 28.
