Former Indian cricket captain and Cricket Association of Bengal president Sourav Ganguly and his wife Donna Ganguly have received death threats. Sourav has filed a written complaint with the police station in this regard. After receiving the complaint, the police have started investigating the incident.
A senior police officer confirmed the matter on Monday (August 10). He said that taking the complaint received from Sourav seriously, an investigation is underway to identify the source of the threat and the people involved in it.
Threatening letters were coming for several months
According to police sources, several threatening letters were coming in the name of Sourav Ganguly for the last six months. However, the matter was not given much importance initially.
The situation became serious after two letters reached Sourav's office on Monday. In these letters, Sourav and his wife Donna Ganguly were directly threatened with death and also threatened to harm their close ones, according to the police.
Police are looking for the source of the letter
After the complaint, the content of the threatening letters, how they arrived and the information about the courier system involved in sending the letters are being investigated.
Initial police investigations suggest that the letters may have been sent through a registered courier service. Investigators believe that the letters were sent from someone in Belgharia area of North 24 Parganas district.
However, the police have not yet provided any confirmed information about the actual sender of the letter or who is behind the threats. Efforts are being made to clarify the entire matter through investigation.
Sourav Ganguly is currently associated with the cricket administration. Such incidents surrounding this former cricketer, who is known as one of the most successful captains of India in his long cricket career, have also created concern among his fans and well-wishers.
