The win lifted Vasco da Gama out of the relegation zone. They are now 16th with 19 points from 18 matches. Santos, on the other hand, are 15th with 21 points, having played one more match.

Shortly after Santos' big loss, head coach Cleber Javier was sacked. The club confirmed the sacking in a statement, wishing him well for his future career.
