There was a different surprise in the first match of the T20 series between Bangladesh and Pakistan at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was present on the field. He appeared on the field before the start of the match today (July 20), Sunday, and enjoyed the game for a while from the gallery.
Mirza Fakhrul left the field as soon as the match ended. However, before that, he gave a short interview to the popular sports broadcasting media T-Sports during the game. There, one of the journalists' questions was, "If BNP comes to power, will Shakib Al Hasan get a chance to play in the national team again?"
Although the question was political, Mirza Fakhrul gave his answer in the light of sports policy. He said,
“It will depend on Shakib’s form. Whether he will stay in cricket or not will depend on him. I never want to bring politics into sports and I don’t believe in it. So, whoever is worthy will definitely come.”
His statement clearly shows that he wants to keep sports free from political influence and whether a player will be in the national team or not will depend on his qualifications, considering the team’s needs and performance.
When asked about his favorite cricketer’s name at that time, he said,
“My favorite player is Mushfiqur Rahim.”
Of course, the interesting thing is that Mushfiqur Rahim was also present on the field that day. This former captain of the Bangladesh team came to the field with his son and enjoyed the game.
At the end of the day’s game, the Bangladesh team was jubilant. The Tigers started the series well by defeating Pakistan by 7 wickets. Along with the politicians present on the field, thousands of fans also rejoiced after the match.
Such a positive and sports-friendly attitude of a cricket-loving politician is being appreciated among sports enthusiasts.
