Bangladesh cricket team head coach Phil Simmons has admitted that there are some shortcomings in the team's preparation ahead of the Champions Trophy. Although there is no problem in terms of the team's skills, he commented that mental preparation is important for the ODI format.
Although the team has recently played in the T20 format in international cricket, their preparation was limited for 50-over cricket. Simmons said, "Yes, we could not prepare the best. But they were in cricket, especially in white-ball cricket, and their skills are sharpened. We will have to prepare mentally in the next 6-7 days."
Although team captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto could not perform much in the BPL, the coach is not worried about his morale. "He has worked hard, and the focus is on preparing for 50-over cricket," said Simmons.
Meanwhile, the team's young pacer Nahid Rana has been playing regularly in the BPL but his recent performances have shown some sluggishness. Simmons said, "At least now he has been given rest and his performance will return to sharpness in the coming days."
Regarding the exclusion of Liton Kumar Das, Simmons said, "Liton has accepted himself as a challenge. He is working on his batting now and will be back very soon."
It is worth noting that this year's Champions Trophy will be held in Dubai and Pakistan, which could be advantageous for Bangladesh. However, coach Simmons is confident that the team has a good chance of winning the tournament. "If we can give our all, we have a good chance of succeeding," he said.
Simmons' contract is till the Champions Trophy, and he has not reached any decision on his future after that.
