In the ongoing season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the national team batsmen selected for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy are not able to do justice to their names. Although more than half of the matches have been completed in the first phase of the league, no batter except Tanjid Hasan Tamim has found a place in the top ten in the run-scoring list.
However, the matter is different for the bowlers. The bowlers have performed much better than the batters in the BPL. Among them, Tanjid Hasan Tamim is in second place with 330 runs for Dhaka Capitals. His strike rate is 138.65. Although his team did not play well, Tanjid scored a great century.
Tanjid is joined in the opening pair for the Champions Trophy by Soumya Sarkar, who has started training after recovering from a finger injury in the West Indies series and will soon take the field in the BPL.
National team middle order batter Zaker Ali Anik has scored 175 runs in 8 matches at a strike rate of 150.86, but he is getting less opportunities to bat, as he is being used as a finisher.
Bangladesh team's key player Mehedi Hasan Miraj has scored only 126 runs in 7 matches. Towhid Hridoy, who was second in the last BPL, has scored 121 runs in 6 matches this time.
Although the batsmen have performed poorly in the BPL, the bowlers have performed well. Taskin Ahmed is at the top with 20 wickets in 9 matches, and Sylhet's Tanjim Hasan Shakib is second with 11 wickets.
In addition, Rangpur Riders' Nahid Rana and Dhaka's Mostafizur Rahman have taken 9 wickets in 9 matches. Mehedi Hasan Miraj has taken 5 wickets in 7 matches and Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossain have taken 4 wickets each.
Thus, although the national team's batters have failed in the BPL, the bowlers have added strength to the team, which has given positive hope ahead of the Champions Trophy.
