The Bangladesh women's cricket team gave a disappointing performance in the first match of the series. Batting for a target of 199 runs against the hosts West Indies in the match held in St. Kitts, the Caribbeans won by 9 wickets.

Captain Nigar Sultana Jyoti was expecting to directly qualify for the World Cup. However, this was not reflected on the field. Bangladesh's innings was stopped for 198 runs after batting first. Openers Murshida Khatun and Sharmin Akhtar took the team's score ahead, but the innings was stopped before 200 runs due to the destruction of the middle order. The Tigresses lost 5 wickets in the last 5 overs, adding only 25 runs to the scoreboard.

In reply, the West Indies started chasing the runs without any pressure. The opening pair of Mathews and Kiana Joseph laid the foundation for victory by building a partnership of 163 runs. Mathews, who also took 2 wickets with the ball, did the rest of the work easily.

With this loss, Bangladesh's challenge of directly qualifying for the World Cup has become difficult. The Tigresses will have to win the remaining two matches. Otherwise, they will have to face the qualifiers.
