Locals recovered the burqa-clad body of a Jubo League leader named Mushfiqur Rahim Mishu in Sonagazi, Feni. His body was recovered from the canal adjacent to Kanyar-Mar pole of Safarpur village of Amirabad union of the upazila around noon on Tuesday (August 6).
Mishu Feni was the office secretary of Dhalia Union Jubo League of Sadar Upazila. Besides, he was the personal assistant of Dhalia Union Parishad Chairman Anwar Hossain Munsi.
According to local sources, a victory procession was taken out in Dhalia Bazar on the news of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation on Monday. After the news of Sheikh Hasina leaving the country on Monday, there was tension in the area. At that time, the angry crowd started a procession and took a stand in Dhalia Bazaar. On hearing the news, everyone hid in the house of this Jubo League leader.
Locals believe that when Mishu escaped wearing a burqa to save her life, miscreants caught her and beat her to death. Later his body was dumped in the canal.
A local named Jafar Rubel said that while crossing the bridge, a body wearing a burqa was seen floating in the water of the canal. Later, locals identified the body as Mishur.
Chairman of Nawabpur Union Parishad of Sonagazi. Zahirul Alam said that although the law and order forces were informed about the body, no one came to the rescue. Later the relatives were called and the body was explained.
Sonagaji Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sudeep Roy was contacted to inquire about this, but there was no response.
