Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given instructions to keep the situation of the country normal in the context of ongoing violence and agitation. Three senior leaders of Awami League have also been assigned to sit with the protesting students.
The head of government and Awami League president gave these instructions in an emergency meeting at Ganabhaban, the official residence of the prime minister, on Friday night.
It is known that Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nashim have been given the responsibility to discuss with the students.
General Secretary Obaidul Quader along with senior leaders were present in the emergency meeting regarding the ongoing situation.
According to the sources of the meeting, three senior leaders have been asked to form a team consisting of leaders of Awami League and 14 parties. The team will discuss with the students. It has been said that the government appealed to the court because it agreed with the demand of reforming the quota of students.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the present leaders to patiently monitor and deal with the situation. Besides, instructions have been given to be vigilant so that no other party can use them.
Since July 16, violence has been happening in different parts of the country centered around the anti-discrimination student movement. The government has said that 150 people have been killed in these incidents so far. However, the agitators have said that this number is 266 people.
