Over Fifty Awami League Leaders, Activists Join BNP in Raipur

More than fifty leaders and activists of the Awami League have joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Raipur, Lakshmipur. The defectors said they were inspired by BNP’s ideology and leadership in deciding to join the party.
The joining took place on Monday evening (2 February) at an election road meeting in Ward No. 6 of South Charbanshi Union, led by Awami League leader and union member Abu Hossain.
According to local sources, Abu Hossain—president of Ward No. 6 Awami League—along with members Anwar Gazi, Samsul Haque Gazi, Jahangir Gazi, Shahjalal Bepari, Ziaul Rahman Bepari, and around fifty other leaders and activists attended the BNP’s election road meeting and formally joined the party.
They were welcomed with flowers by South Charbanshi Union BNP President Harun Ar Rashid Hawladar, General Secretary Gazi Aminul Aziz Badsha, and other BNP leaders including Sheikh Masud Parvez.
Speaking on the occasion, Abu Hossain and several other leaders said they had faced oppression and harassment in various ways over the past 18 years by the chairman and his associates. Inspired by BNP’s ideals, they decided to join the party’s leadership.
South Charbanshi Union BNP President Harun Hawladar said BNP’s popularity is increasing day by day, with leaders and activists from different political parties joining, which will further strengthen the party organizationally. He welcomed the new members on behalf of the union BNP.
