A cyber attack has taken place on the social media accounts of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, along with the official Twitter (X) account, and some of the party's top leaders. A general diary (GD) has been filed at Hatirjheel Police Station in the capital in this incident.
The GD was filed at Hatirjheel Police Station on Saturday (January 31) night by the Jamaat-e-Islami's election management committee, according to party sources.
The central campaign team of Jamaat-e-Islami said that in a highly coordinated and planned manner, the attackers temporarily took control of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman's X (Twitter) account. However, through quick action and existing security measures, the party's cyber team was able to regain full control of the account within a short time. As a result, it has also been possible to ensure the security of the party's other leaders' accounts and digital platforms.
Within this short period of time, an unwanted post was published from the Jamaat Ameer's X account, where completely false and misleading statements were spread in his name. The party has made it clear that the post or content does not reflect any statement, opinion or political position of the Jamaat Ameer.
Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department, strongly condemned and protested the incident. In a statement issued on Saturday night, he said that spreading false information, forging identities and creating and distributing distorted content are legally punishable and morally reprehensible crimes.
He also said, "Recently, there has been a cyber attack on the social media accounts of some senior leaders of the party, including the official X handle of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman. Although this attack was carried out in a highly coordinated manner, our cyber team was able to quickly bring the situation under control."
In the statement, he called on the general public, media workers and social media users to be extremely vigilant about spreading fake news, fake quotes and misleading information. He also requested not to share any information or content without verification.
In addition, if suspicious or misleading content is seen, it is urged to report it to the relevant platform. The central campaign team said that they are fully committed to maintaining digital security, transparency and credibility in communication with the public. It was also stated that more detailed information will be provided in this regard later if necessary.
The leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami has called on all concerned to refrain from such immoral and criminal activities in the future.
