Income increased 22 times in 6 years, owns 5 kathas of land and 5 flats in Dhanmondi: Rumin Farhana

Information has emerged about the massive changes in the declared income and assets of Rumin Farhana, the leader and former MP who was recently expelled from BNP, in the last six years. Comparing the affidavit submitted in 2019 with the affidavit submitted on the occasion of the 13th National Parliament election in 2025, it was found that her annual income increased more than 22 times during this period. At the same time, the amount of movable and immovable assets has also increased significantly.

According to the affidavit, Rumin Farhana, who introduced herself as a Supreme Court lawyer in 2019, showed an annual income of 4 lakh 34 thousand 100 taka. Of this, income from the legal profession was 4 lakh taka and income from bank deposits was 34 thousand 100 taka. However, her declared annual income in the 2025 affidavit stood at 97 lakh 14 thousand 173 taka. That is, her income has increased at least 22 times in a span of six years.

Radical change in immovable assets

In her 2019 affidavit, Rumeen Farhana mentioned only one flat as her immovable asset, which she got from her mother. Just two months after taking oath as a member of parliament from the reserved women's seat of the 11th National Parliament that year, she also applied to the government for allocation of 10 kathas of land. In that application, she mentioned that she did not own any flat, land or residence in Dhaka in her own name.

But the latest affidavit filed six years later shows that she owns multiple flats and land in the capital's elite areas. According to the affidavit, in addition to the flat she got from her mother, she owns 5 kathas of land on Laboratory Road in Dhanmondi and five flats in the same area. In addition, she has a commercial space of 1,258.884 square feet in Paltan, Old Dhaka, whose value is shown at Tk 6.5 million. Since most of these assets are said to have been inherited, the purchase price has not been shown.

Big increase in cash and savings

There has also been a significant change in the field of movable assets. In 2019, Rumeen Farhana had cash in hand of Tk 9,85,422. In the 2025 affidavit, that figure has increased to Tk 3,214,173. Of this, Tk 3,042,694 is deposited in the bank and Tk 1,71,479 is in cash.

In both affidavits, information about having 10 Bhori gold ornaments in her name, which is claimed to have been received as a gift. However, she stated in the affidavit that she does not have any shares, bonds or other investments in her name.

Information on cases and election expenses

In 2019, three cases filed against her under the Digital Security Act were pending in the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. According to the latest affidavit, the previous cases, including one new case, have been disposed of in the same court.

The new affidavit also mentions the calculation of her possible expenses in the upcoming elections. It is said that he will spend a total of 2.5 million taka on the election. Of this, 2 million taka will come from his own income from the legal profession and the remaining 5 million taka will be borrowed from his cousin, expatriate Ghalib Mehdi.

Candidacy and political context

In Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, BNP has released Maulana Junaid Al Habib, the candidate of their alliance partner Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. Rumin Farhana is participating in the election as an independent candidate from that constituency after not receiving party nomination. On December 29, he submitted his nomination papers to Sarail Upazila Executive Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Md. Abubakar Sarkar.

The next day, on December 30, he was expelled from the post of Joint International Affairs Secretary of the BNP National Executive Committee. A total of 12 candidates are currently contesting in Brahmanbaria-2 constituency. District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Sharmin Akhter Jahan has declared the nomination papers of all candidates for this constituency valid.
