Aslam Chowdhury's supporters block roads after not getting BNP nomination

Former joint secretary general Aslam Chowdhury has been denied nomination from the BNP for the Chittagong-4 (Sitakunda) constituency. His supporters are furious over the news. On Monday (November 3) evening, they took positions at various points on the Chittagong-Dhaka highway, including Faujdarhat and Bhatiari in Sitakunda, and started a protest by burning tires. This stopped traffic on the highway and spread tension in the area.
The supporters claim that Aslam Chowdhury is a renegade leader who has served a long time in prison for the party. However, BNP has done wrong by not giving him nomination. They announced that they will launch a strong movement if Aslam Chowdhury is not given nomination for the Sitakunda constituency.
Sitakunda Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mojibur Rahman said, “Aslam Chowdhury’s supporters have blocked the highway. The blockade is currently ongoing. Police and law enforcement officers are on alert to control the situation.”
Earlier, on Monday (November 3) afternoon, at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the names of the party’s candidates for 237 seats. The names of candidates for 10 of the 16 seats in Chittagong were announced, while the names of the remaining six seats will be announced later.
The candidates announced in Chittagong are: Chittagong-1 (Mirsarai): Nurul Amin Chairman, Chittagong-2 (Fatikchhari): Sarwar Alamgir, Chittagong-4 (Sitakund): Kazi Salauddin, Chittagong-5 (Hathazari): Mir Helal Uddin, Chittagong-7 (Rangunia): Hummam Quader Chowdhury, Chittagong-8 (Chandgaon-Bakaliya): Ershad Ullah, Chittagong-10 (Doublemooring-Pahartoli): Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Chittagong-12 (Patia): Enamul Haque, Chittagong-13 (Anwara-Karnaphuli): Sarwar Jamal Nizam and Chittagong-16 (Baanshkhali): Mishkatul Islam Chowdhury Pappa.
