Awami League leader Indian Razakars: Shamim Sayeedi

Maulana Shamim (Md. Shamim Bin Sayeedi), son of Maulana Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, delivered a strong criticism and political agenda against the government in a public meeting organized by Jamaat-e-Islami in Feni's Chhagalnaiya Upazila. He claimed in his speech that his father—Allama Delwar Hossain Sayeedi—had been killed and now it was "time to take revenge" for the murder. He also made offensive comments against the Awami League, calling them "India's Razakars."

Shamim Sayeedi said that the allegations and fears raised against Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists are baseless. He also said that none of the Jamaat members have the opportunity to return to Pakistan or India; rather, they should be motivated to stand on this ground and fight. He also assured, "We will take the bullets to our chests—this country is our last destination, this is where we will be buried." This statement was broadcast on the local rally video and news channel.

At one point in his speech, Shamim also claimed that many Awami League leaders have business, house and wealth links with India, hence he referred to them as ‘Bharat’s Razakars’. He called for voting in favour of Jamaat nominated candidates with the beard symbol and termed the upcoming elections as a “fight to protect Islam” and “fight for freedom from Indian aggression”.

Shamim also repeatedly recalled his personal pain and family grief. He said that his father was very popular among the people for his call to the Quran; due to which he had to endure various tortures and later when he was taken to the hospital, incidents like murder took place. His announcement was supported by the supporters present at the rally with enthusiasm and slogans.

Political analysts say that such strong language and promises by Jamaat leaders can create tension in the election environment. Local security measures may need to be strengthened, especially when the speech contains retaliatory or armed innuendo.
