The interim government will make the final decision on whether the Awami League will remain active or be banned: Rizvi

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has commented that the interim government will decide whether the Awami League will remain active or be banned in the future. However, he mentioned that those involved in crimes must face justice.
Rizvi made these comments while talking to reporters at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan in the capital on Tuesday (October 21) afternoon.
Rizvi said that the proposal to seek a referendum in November is “like asking for a favor from an uncle’s house.” He said that if the referendum can be held on the same day as the national election, it will save additional costs and time. However, the issues of the referendum need to be clarified more—the people should be informed about which reforms or issues will be taken for public opinion.
He also said that holding the national election and referendum on the same day will reduce costs and simplify administrative procedures. However, no matter how reasonable the referendum proposal is, it is necessary to clearly state on what issues public opinion will be sought before implementing it.
Rizvi warned, “The idea that winning the student union elections in educational institutions will lead to winning the national elections is wrong. Such an idea will be a suicidal decision for Jamaat-e-Islami.”
He said that the elections are being held under the government, not under any party. Therefore, there is no doubt among the people about this election. Rather, there is confidence among the people that a fair and impartial election is possible under the interim government.
Rizvi also requested the BNP leaders and activists to exercise restraint and patience in any provocation. The party’s activities should be carried forward through peaceful programs and legal movements.
BNP’s co-propaganda secretary Asadul Karim Shaheen, Swechchhasebak Dal vice-president Dr. Jahedul Kabir Zahid, among others, were present at the time.
