Journalists boycotted the press conference of Akhtar Hossain and Tasnim Zara, angered by the misbehavior of some leaders and activists of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The incident took place at the airport's VIP gate around 9:45 am on Thursday.
A journalist who witnessed the incident said that Humayun Kabir, foreign affairs advisor to the acting chairman of BNP, was talking to journalists. At that time, some NCP leaders and activists were waiting to welcome Akhtar Hossain and Tasnim Zara with flowers. Suddenly, they started shouting slogans loudly. They were requested to calm down if there was any problem while listening to the journalists' statements. But some NCP leaders and activists misbehaved with journalists. The journalists announced to boycott the press conference over this incident.
A statement issued by the NCP after the incident said that the misbehavior with journalists was 'sad and condemnable'. The party has assured to take organizational action by identifying the responsible persons.
Earlier, during his visit to the United States, eggs were also thrown at Akhtar Hossain at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus left Dhaka on September 22 to attend the United Nations General Assembly session and returned home this morning after a nine-day visit. He was accompanied by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Jamaat leader Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, and NCP leaders Akhtar Hossain and Tasnim Zara.
A video circulating on social media at the moment of boycotting the press conference shows the journalists leaving in anger. At that time, some NCP leaders requested them not to go. However, the journalists stubbornly commented - "This time we have made it empty, there are many places, you should march."
After the journalists' stance, the NCP leaders' press conference practically collapsed.
