After the fall of the Awami League government, BNP has shown a new example of occupation; The district press club committee has been canceled through a press release. Sherpur district BNP has committed this crime. However, in the face of criticism, the press release was amended by omitting the 'announcement of cancellation'.
A 22-member committee of Sherpur Press Club was formed on August 22 with Kakan Reza of NTV as president and Masud Hasan Badal of Bangladesh Pratidin as general secretary after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in the student uprising on August 5.
Four days later, district BNP president said on Monday night. Mahmudul Haque Rubel and general secretary. In a press release signed by Hazrat Ali, the said committee was declared cancelled.
It is said in the notification, "No one is aware of the district BNP's committee of Sherpur Press Club." So that committee was declared cancelled. Later, a beautiful and strong committee will be formed in coordination with all the journalists.
Conscious people including media workers were stunned by this outrageous, extrajudicial and unprecedented act of BNP. A political party's 'cancellation' of the professional association of journalists drew a storm of criticism.
Condemning this incident of BNP, the newly elected President-Editor of Sherpur District Press Club said in a joint statement, "Press Club is a non-political and universal professional organization. We respect all political parties. However, this kind of unintended incident is part of journalists' voice suppression.
District BNP General Secretary Md. Hazrat Ali told Ajker newspaper, "Due to a typing mistake, the committee has been cancelled." We are revising and correcting it again. We don't know how long it will last. The cancellation of the committee will be omitted.
Meanwhile, Shayrul Kabir Khan, a member of BNP's central media wing, expressed surprise at the incident. He said, 'I have received the press release, it is sad. It can't do it. I am talking about this. He also said that the national press club or any district press club is not an organ or associate organization of BNP, nor is it a professional organization of BNP. There is no opportunity to directly interfere in it.
In the face of criticism, the district BNP revised the press release on Monday night. There was no committee cancellation line. However, the part 'Later on a good and strong committee will be formed in coordination with all the journalists' is kept.
