Students occupied the streets of Dhaka to demand the resignation of the government. Sheikh Hasina was forced to step down amid clashes across the country and the death of more than 300 people after the student movement that started 36 days ago to demand quota reforms in government jobs turned into a movement to topple the government.
Many top leaders of Awami League left the country before reaching India for safe haven after resigning from the post of Prime Minister. After that, many leaders and activists left the country, and many were stuck at the airport even though they wanted to leave the country. Several activists tried to leave the country in different ways. Besides, many have gone into hiding in safe places in the country.
Among them, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam has not left the country. Stayed in a safe place in the country. Do not come in front of public or common people. Avoiding everyone, he is hidden from the public eye. Mayor Atiqul is not coming to Dhaka North City Corporation office.
A person close to DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam told Dhaka Post on condition of anonymity that he has not left the country and is safe in the country.
He said that Mayor Atiqul Islam is acceptable to everyone politically and as a mayor. He never wrongfully harmed anyone. Dutifully performed. All in all, he is accepted by everyone, that's why he didn't fall under anyone's wrath. But he is not coming in public in the current situation, he is in a safe place.
On the other hand, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas has left the country for Singapore due to the ongoing quota reform movement.
He left the country on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on July 3.
An official of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, who did not wish to be named, said that Dhaka South Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas went to Singapore alone on a Biman flight. No family member was with him.
