Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain Bakul has expressed his anger after visiting the Haimchar Upazila Health Complex in Chandpur on a surprise visit and seeing the mismanagement of the hospital. He immediately ordered ‘stands released’ to Chandpur Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Nur Alam Din for negligence in performing his duties.
The Health Minister visited the Haimchar Upazila Health Complex on Sunday (August 9) morning without any prior announcement. MP from Chandpur-3 constituency Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik was present at the time.
The Minister visited the emergency department, outpatient department and various wards of the 50-bed hospital. He spoke to the patients who came for treatment and their relatives and inquired about the quality of service.
During the inspection, he found several weaknesses in the hospital’s management and healthcare services, according to sources concerned. Later, he gave necessary instructions to the responsible officials.
‘Neglect will not be tolerated’
The Health Minister said that no kind of negligence will be accepted in a sensitive sector like healthcare. Everyone responsible for mismanagement will be held accountable.
Chandpur Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Nur Alam Din was ordered to be transferred or given ‘stand release’ immediately for negligence in the discharge of his duties.
After this decision of the Health Minister, a new discussion has started on accountability in the management of healthcare in the district.
While talking to journalists after the inspection, the Health Minister also expressed dissatisfaction with the current situation in the country’s healthcare sector.
He said that the health sector did not receive due importance during the previous government, the impact of which is now being seen in the country’s healthcare system.
