Local government elections are going to start in the country from next October. The election process will continue step by step and there is a plan to complete all the elections by October next year, said the Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr. Zaheed Ur Rahman.
He gave this information in the weekly briefing on the ongoing activities and progress of the government at the secretariat on Tuesday.
The information advisor said that the Election Commission has already started the work of preparing a roadmap in view of the local government elections. According to that plan, the election will be completed within the stipulated time.
He also talked about the recent complaints about electricity bills in the briefing. In the month of June, additional electricity bills will be investigated and necessary measures will be taken, said Dr. Zaheed Ur Rahman.
He also said that the government is going to take legal action to prevent unsafe food management. According to him, harmful chemicals are being used in various stages of food production and preservation, which pose a risk to public health. For this reason, a database will be created by collecting the information of those involved in the food business. Besides, initiatives will be taken to make traders aware.
The Information Adviser also said that legal action would be taken against those involved after investigating the incident of cocktail explosion at the NCP public meeting in Savar.
Referring to the taunts about the July uprising, he said, such comments are regrettable, but according to the current legal framework, they do not directly fall into the category of crime. However, in the future, there may be a discussion on whether such comments will be considered as a crime or not.
