International Mother Language Day and Great Martyrs’ Day were observed in Panchagarh with due solemnity and respect. In the early hours of Saturday, 21 February, various commemorative programs were organized to honor the language martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the recognition of Bangla in 1952.
At the beginning of the day, wreaths were placed at the Panchagarh Central Shaheed Minar in tribute to the martyrs. Superintendent of Police of Panchagarh, Md. Robiul Islam, paid homage by laying a floral wreath at the memorial. He observed a moment of silence in remembrance of the fallen heroes, expressing deep respect for their sacrifice.
Among those present at the ceremony were Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Md. Forhad Hossain, DIO-1 of Panchagarh, the Officer-in-Charge of the District Detective Branch, the Officer-in-Charge of Panchagarh Sadar Police Station, the TI (Administration), along with other senior officers and members of the district police.
The Shaheed Minar premises were filled with a solemn atmosphere as people from different walks of life gathered—many barefoot and carrying flowers—to pay their respects. The sacrifice of the language martyrs of 1952 continues to inspire the nation to uphold the dignity of the Bangla language and preserve its rich cultural heritage.
