Sylhet Division's First Female MP Tahsina Rushdir Luna

Tahsina Rushdir Luna, wife of former MP M Ilias Ali and BNP candidate from Sylhet-2 (Bishwanath-Osmaninagar) constituency, has won as the first female member of parliament of Sylhet Division. She was unofficially declared the winner after peaceful voting and counting on Thursday (February 12).

Luna defeated her nearest rival, 11-party alliance candidate Muhammad Muntasir Ali, by a margin of 79,251 votes. The total number of voters in this constituency was 3,64,083.

There were 1,92,775 voters in Bishwanath Upazila. A total of 89,341 votes were cast here. Tahsina Rushdir Luna received 67,977 votes in this upazila. His rival Muhammad Muntasir Ali (wall clock symbol) of the 11-party alliance received 17,954 votes. In addition, Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury of the Jatiya Party received 542 votes, Maulana Amir Uddin of the Islami Andolan received 572 votes and Mujibul Haque of the Gono Forum received 126 votes.

On the other hand, there were 171,308 voters in Osmaninagar Upazila. A total of 72,496 votes were cast here, which is 42.46 percent of the total voters. In this upazila, Tahsina Rushdir Luna received 48,720 votes with the paddy sheaf symbol. Muhammad Muntasir Ali of the 11-party alliance received 19,492 votes. In addition, Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury of the Jatiya Party received 862 votes, Maulana Amir Uddin of the Islami Andolan received 817 votes and Mujibul Haque of the Gono Forum received 506 votes.

After the results of all the centers were completed, Tahsina Rushdir Luna was declared the first female MP from Sylhet division.
