The Bangladesh Army has conducted a demonstration exercise in Rangpur to showcase its preparedness to handle any untoward situation during the upcoming referendum and the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The drill was held on Thursday (February 5) at noon at the Rangpur Cricket Garden Ground by the Commando Group of the 66 Infantry Division.
Following the exercise, under the directive of Major General Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 66 Infantry Division and Rangpur Area Commander, it was stated that the Army is fully prepared to control any situation that may arise during the election period.
As part of the drill, a 10-member para-commando team was deployed to the ground via helicopter. The exercise demonstrated how the Army would carry out rapid heli-drop operations to respond to disorder or unrest at any polling center, including those in remote areas of the Rangpur Division, on election day.
Hundreds of onlookers gathered along the roadside to observe the Army’s exercise.
