CEC: No worries about elections, law enforcement fully prepared

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said that the upcoming elections will be held without any disruptions and the law enforcement and Election Commission are fully prepared.

He made these remarks while addressing the chief guest at the inauguration of the ‘GenVote Festival’ at Alokite in Gulshan-1 on Monday (December 15) morning. The CEC said, “The elections will be held with everyone and with everyone’s cooperation. I met the highest officials of the law enforcement yesterday, they are fully prepared.”

The event was attended by European Union Ambassador Michael Miller, British High Commission Head of Political Timothy Duckett, Swedish Embassy Deputy Head Eva Smedberg, IFES Country Director Paul Guerin and EC Secretary Akhtar Hossain, among other international guests.

The CEC said, “The law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to maintain peace and order until the elections. Fair and competitive elections will be ensured at the right time.”

He also said, “This is a historic election because for the first time, expatriate Bangladeshis are able to vote through postal ballots. In addition, voting arrangements have been made for about one million officials and employees, members of the law enforcement agencies, prisoners and government employees posted outside the polling stations. This time, the referendum will be held in one day.”

The CEC also mentioned the importance of youth participation in the vote and said, “We see the dream of a new Bangladesh as relying on the strength of the youth. It is not possible to build a country without your creativity and thinking. So, help build a Bangladesh with a beautiful future by participating in the vote.”

The initiative is encouraging youth participation in the vote through various attractive events including mock voting, comics, and art festivals at the ‘GenVote Festival’. The initiative is supported by the European Union, UK International Development, the Swedish Embassy, ​​the Canadian Fund for International Law (CFLI), and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems.
