Music and Physical Education Teacher Posts Abolished in Primary

Published: 05:11 3 November 2025
The posts of assistant teachers in music and physical education subjects in government primary schools have been abolished. The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education released this information through a notification on Sunday. The new rules amend the “Teacher Recruitment Rules in Government Primary Schools, 2025” issued on August 28.
The notification states that in accordance with sub-section (1) of section 59 of the Government Services Act, 2018 and in accordance with Article 140(2) of the Constitution, changes have been made in the recruitment rules in consultation with the Public Service Commission (PSC). As a result, the posts of assistant teachers in music and physical education have been abolished.
With this amendment, the recruitment process of assistant teachers has become simple and free from complications. Meanwhile, the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) has met with Teletalk to publish the notification for the recruitment of 13,500 assistant teachers in government primary schools in the country.
According to the previous rules, there was a 20 percent quota for candidates from the science department, but complications arose in this. In the new rules, an additional 20 percent quota has been kept for science students. The remaining 73 percent of the posts will be distributed among general students on the basis of merit.
This step is expected to make the recruitment process more transparent and convenient for the candidates.
