During a discussion with journalists at Patuakhali Circuit House on Friday, Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Anwarul Islam said that the schedule for the 13th National Parliament elections will be announced in the first half of December. He also said that the Election Commission has not yet made a final decision on whether the referendum will be held before or after the parliamentary elections.
EC Anwarul said, “We have not yet received any information about how the government is preparing for the referendum. We will inform you once the decision is made.” He confirmed that the parliamentary elections will be held by February, before the month of Ramadan. The work plan for the elections has also been published.
He commented on whether the elections will be held under the PR system or not, saying that it is a completely political matter and depends on political decisions.
Regarding the election symbols, he said that there is a list of some symbols prescribed in the election planning rules. The Election Commission changes, expands and revises it from time to time. All the activities related to this have already been completed.
For expatriate voters, he said, “We will start registering expatriate voters from November. Arrangements have also been made to ensure that those who are in prison also have the opportunity to vote.”
With this announcement, the Election Commission is trying to set a clear timeline for voters and political parties so that the electoral process can be completed peacefully and transparently.
